sC_w0lveS Posted September 16, 2017 Report Share Posted September 16, 2017 First Look At The Fanatec Direct Drive Wheel Quote Two days ago, Fanatec CEO, Thomas Jackermeier announced that they would unveil the first product in their new ‘Podium Series’ product line during the 2017 edition of the Sim Racing Expo which takes place this weekend (16th and 17th of September) at the 8.800 sqm ring Boulevard on the German Nürburgring Grand-Prix circuit. The new product line named ‘Podium Series’ will become Fanatec’s highest range of products positioned above the ClubSport Series. The Podium Series products will be compatibility throughout the whole product palette. Thomas Jackermeier stated that with this new range of products, Fanatec tries to set new standards in terms of functionality, performance, and durability, while retaining compatibility and a great price performance. Sadly enough, due to professional obligations, yours truly was unable to attend this year’s Sim Racing Expo. But rest assured, Bsimracing friend AussieStig is on the scene to report on all of the exciting happenings during the entire event. As expected, the revealed mystery product was in fact, the long-awaited Fanatec Direct Drive wheel. This morning AussieStig uploaded the first set of photos and a small video (below) showcasing the first generation of the highly anticipated new ultra-high-end Fanatec sim racing wheel. Quote What we know so far: Models We are developing more than one base. The main difference will be the maximum torque. The torque range is starting at a competitive level far above the CS WB V2.5 and ranges up to a level most of you will not be able to use for a long time. It will not replace the CS WB V2.5 and we will keep this model as the best non-DD solution on the market. The DD wheelbases are the first products of a complete series of hardcore products which are positioned above the ClubSport series. This series will include wheelbases, steering wheels, pedals, shifters and handbrakes in the (very) long run. Plug&Play The DD will be a typical plug&play product like other Fanatec wheelbases. All in one housing and no cable mess. Certification Like any other Fanatec product, the DD will be fully certified and lab tested. This will avoid EMI issues and other interference with your other devices. The DD uses a lot of power and huge magnets are involved so this is a very important point which is often not considered until you get a lot of mysterious issues and damages to your whole system. Compatibility PC for sure as this is the main market and there is no reason that it should not work on Xbox One. The first generation will not be compatible with PS4. We have a great relationship with all racing game developers and you can be sure that there will be broad support for this wheelbase. Our target is to set a new standard in Simracing. Motors: We looked at the current motors on the market and there was nothing which really fulfilled our requirements. Those industrial motors were not designed for Simracing. Steppers and hybrid steppers deliver a way too notchy feeling for a hardcore product, no matter how good you tweak the software. Also, other servo motors are always a compromise. Therefore we developed complete custom servo motors where we decided about what speed, torque, size, power consumption, pricing etc. we need. Steering Wheels All the current ClubSport steering wheels will be compatible. We developed a new QR system on the base to handle the extra power but it will stay a quick release. There will be no cable from the wheel to the base or to USB. The wheel will be able to rotate unlimited without the risk to snap off a cable or to disturb you while driving. The CSL and CSL Elite steering wheels will be compatible as well but torque will be reduced if such a wheel is detected. Software Please let us know what kind of software you are expecting to get with the DD. What parameters do you want to adjust and how and where do you want to adjust these parameters. We are pretty flexible on this point. Target Dates Disclaimer Dates are always a very sensitive subject. In principle you need to understand that the DD technology is not only new to us, our DD wheels are completely designed from scratch and a breakthrough for the whole industry. This involves some completely new technology which had to be invented and everything is customized. A lot of unknown factors are not good to give any solid time projections. We simply cannot give you any guaranteed dates at this point. But at least you get some indication of our target dates. Community event: There will be a community event where we invite interested sim racers to test and compare our new DD wheels directly to all other solutions on the market. Time and date is not defined yet but it will obviously be before the launch date. More news and how to apply for this test will be posted here. Beta Test: The external beta test will start after all internal tests are done. We will also make a separate announcement where you can apply to become a tester. We are interested in the opinion of current DD users and ultra hardcore users as well as people with analytic and structured thinking which are able to find remaining bugs and make suggestions for improvements. Please make sure you already filled out this form. Launch date: Q4 2017 Pricing There will be a significant difference to the current wheelbases we have so there will be different performance levels at different price points. As the current CS WB V2.5 is still priced significantly lower than any other DD wheel on the market (please compare it with a full system incl. steering wheel with buttons) there is still room for us to make a very competitive offer. Thomas Jackermeier, CEO of the German company, has finally unveiled the video features of the Direct Drive line called Podium. The most "economic" base is in metal and will develop from 15 Nm of torque up to a maximum peak of 18 Nm. On this model there will be no cut off (which detaches power in case of danger). The base has a small screen where a menu allows you to control temperatures, power output and clipping; instead the steering wheel will communicate with the base via a wireless connection. Also modified the quick release (compatible of course with all Fanatec steering wheels) with the use of a thick rubber to contain vibrations. The price has not been unveiled but will be available via auction on the Fanatec website starting from the symbolic amount of 1 euro. The base two instead is characterized by more refined materials (including carbon), the safety cut off and a pair that goes from 18 Nm up to 24 Nm. No other difference except for the price: 1499 euros. Base two is already available at pre-order with first deliveries scheduled for December 2018. Fanatec has even provided the Direct Drive for Playstation 4 but the specifications will be revealed later, following agreements and licenses with Sony. Comments on the forum . troffeo Posted July 15, 2018 Report Share Posted July 15, 2018 (edited) Εντάξει, ότι νέο έρχεται και προσθέτει κάτι στην "τρέλα" μας είναι πάντα καλοδεχούμενο! Διαβάζοντας όμως τις διάφορες πρώτες απόψεις, αλλά κυρίως όλα τα τεχνικά χαρακτηριστικά και τις όποιες "καινοτομίες", βλέπω το νέο προϊόν με μια κάποια δυσπιστία... Και εξηγώ το γιατί: 1. Η Fanatec είναι μια εταιρία που για εμένα ώς πελάτη της, δεν έχει κανένα σεβασμό. Οποτεδήποτε χρειάστηκα κάτι από αυτούς με αντιμετώπιζαν ΜΟΝΟ ώς πορτοφόλι και συνήθως δεν μου έδιναν καμία λύση στα (πολλά) προβλήματα που είχα με τα προϊόντα τους. 2. Πολύ κακή ποιότητα κατασκευής σε ΟΛΑ τα ηλεκτρονικά μέρη των προϊόντων της. Να πω μόνο εδώ ότι σχετικά καλές κατασκευές ΥΠΟΦΕΡΟΥΝ από ηλεκτρονικά εξαρτήματα του €5ευρου, όπως για παράδειγμα τα πετάλια τουλάχιστον τα v1 & v2 που είχα! 3. Συνήθως αντί να ψάξει και να βρει βελτίωση σε κάποιο προβληματικό προϊόν, βγάζει νέο και μάλιστα καταργεί ΟΠΟΙΟΔΗΠΟΤΕ after sales service, όπως προ είπα για ευτελούς αξίας εξαρτήματα, χωρίς τα οποία όμως έχεις ένα εντελώς άχρηστο και ακριβοπληρωμένο προϊόν, το οποίο για να το ψευτολειτουργήσεις πρέπει να αρχίσεις τις μόντες και τις καγκουριές! Δεν θα ξεχάσω (έχω και όλη την αλληλογραφία διαθέσιμη), τι μου έλεγαν όταν τους ζήταγα να μου πουλήσουν έναν load cell ή πολύ περισσότερο, τους αισθητήρες που έχουν οι πεταλιέρες τους, για να διαβάζουν την θέση του πεντάλ. Όταν δε τους ζήτησα να μου κάνουν προσφορά για ένα πλήρες σέρβις στα 2 ετών πετάλια μου (v2), δηλαδή αλλαγή όλων των πλακετών και γενικά όλων των ηλεκτρονικών εξαρτημάτων, μου είπαν εν ολίγοις να τα πετάξω και να πάρω τα v3 που είναι καλύτερα... Στην Αμερική όμως και στα Αμερικανάκια, που δεν τους παίρνει για μαγκιές, κάθονται σούζα και εξυπηρετούν τα πάντα. Εξού και η πολύ περίεργη "ισοτιμία" ευρώ και δολαρίου που έχουν σε ΟΛΑ τους τα προϊόντα! 4. Η "φιλοσοφία" που πιστεύω ότι έχουν εμπορικά, είναι να χτυπήσουν κυρίως όλους τους μικρούς κατασκευαστές OSW τιμονιών, ιδιαίτερα μετά από το τελευταίο μπάσιμο τους σε "μικρές" κατηγορίες ισχύος (π.χ με τιμόνια των 7-12nm), γιατί έτσι έβλεπαν αφενός να χάνουν πελάτες και αφετέρου να μένουν πολύ πίσω σε ότι έχει να κάνει με τα περιφερειακά τους, δηλαδή κυρίως τιμόνια. Μα θα πει κάποιος ότι το 1 από τα 2 νέα τιμόνια "κάθεται" ακριβώς απέναντι από την Accuforce, τι μας λες τώρα εσύ? Και όμως έτσι είναι, γιατί εκτός από την τιμολογιακή τους πολιτική που είναι ακριβότερη από τους Αμερικάνους ανταγωνιστές τους, η Accuforce είναι μια πολύ σοβαρή και ειδικευμένη εταιρία, για να θέλουν να μπουν σε ευθεία αντιπαράθεση. Ενώ οι υπόλοιποι, αφενός είναι κυρίως στην Ευρώπη (Ισπανία κλπ.), αφετέρου είναι μάλλον χομπίστες και συνήθως είναι μικρού βεληνεκούς επιχειρηματίες, οπότε είναι πιο εύκολη η δουλειά χαχαχα. 5. Μου την "δίνουν" οι εμμονές και τα κωλύματα τους, ιδιαίτερα όταν διατυμπανίζουν την "Γερμανική ποιότητα" κατασκευής, ενώ τα προϊόντα τους φτιάχνονται κάπου στα βάθη της Ασίας... (δεν σημαίνει βέβαια κάτι για εμένα αυτό, ούτε και υποτιμώ τους ανθρώπους - εργάτες, αλλά όχι να μου κάνεις και διαφήμιση για την Γερμανική ποιότητα ρε φίλε!). Επίσης τα κωλύματα τους τα συνεχίζουν και στο Podium DD, όπου αναφέρουν στα χαρακτηριστικά του τιμονιού τους, "Ultra-low torque ripple ensures minimal mechanical distractions and the same smooth experience as in a belt driven Wheel." (https://www.fanatec.com/eu-en/wheel-bases/podium-wheel-base-dd2-eu.html) λες και η τεχνολογία που χρησιμοποιεί ιμάντα δεν είναι ΗΔΗ ξεπερασμένη... Άντε γειά! Εν κατακλείδι θα περιμένω, αν ποτέ ξαναγίνω πελάτης τους και τους εμπιστευτώ, την 2η ή ακόμα καλύτερα την 3η έκδοση του τιμονιού τους για να σκεφτώ αγορά! Μακάρι να βγω ψεύτης και να μας εκπλήξουν θετικά, αλλά μέχρι τότε άλλα πορτοκάλια, από άλλες πορτοκαλιές!!! spyder Posted July 15, 2018 Report Share Posted July 15, 2018 Θα βγεί και το DD1 15-18Nm λίγο πάνω απο χιλάρικο. Το OSW με Mige μοτερ-Biss encoder και Simucube έχουν πολύ μικρή διαφορά απ'τα Bodnar που είναι 3 φορές ακριβότερα. Το software κάνει τη διαφορά και η μετάβαση MMOS σε Simucube είχε μεγάλη διαφορά. Οσο για τα μκρά Mige μοτέρ 7-12Nm που πουλάει ο εγγλέζος δεν συνοδεύονται απο Simucube software {δεν ξέρω για το hardware) οπότε έχω αμφιβολίες. troffeo Posted April 2, 2019 Report Share Posted April 2, 2019 Δεν ξέρω τι θα κάνουν, γιατί κάνα χρόνο τώρα "λανσάρουν" το "νέο" τους DD τιμόνι αλλά ακόμα δεν το έχουμε δει, αλλά για εμένα προσωπικά η μάρκα Fanatec δεν υπάρχει!!!
