mad_dog
Quote rFactor 2 has a physical thermo-mechanical tire model, based on real tire construction from first principles, with full carcass, tread and contact patch simulation, where peak slip angles dynamically change with temperature and pressure, instead of staying static. And don't forget proper flatspots resulting in mass imbalances and some more. Such a tire model alone took many years of research and development effort. rF2 also has an updated collision system, with vastly improved wheel-to-wheel collisions for open-wheel cars. It also has fully dynamic Real-Road and wet weather / rain with dynamic drying line based on where the cars actually drive. Eπίσης... mad_dog
rFactor 2 is a computer racing simulator developed by the American independent software developer Image Space Incorporated. It is the sequel to the highly acclaimed rFactor. The simulator was released for Windows in 2013. Just like its precursor it is designed to be modded and is a top choice among real professional racing teams, for driver training and race car development. A lot of its code is derived from rFactor Pro, which is also used by real professional racing and most of the Formula One teams and NASCAR manufacturers. rFactor 2 is designed to run any type of four-wheeled vehicle of any era. The simulator features highly advanced physics, and is highly modifiable. Offline and online racing modes are available. rFactor 2 and its precursor have received much praise for its highly advanced and accurate simulation of vehicle dynamics and is the preferred simulator for most real life professional racing teams, car engineers and simulation centers. Race Engineer Andrea Quintarelli stated: “It is also no surprise for me that most of these professional simulators (or centers) are using rFactor. As I had the chance to prove myself (and probably to somebody reading here), when you know how to properly build your models, rFactor is producing very accurate results, at a very low cost.” Petros Mak, founder of the professional modding company Mak Corp, stated: “All our race team clients and even our series clients, they don’t only use rFactor for track familiarization. They also use it to test setup data before they go to an event, they use it to test potential new part data, by developing new brakes or new engine performances and testing it in the game before they actually commit to building it in real life. rF1 and rF2 provide far higher accuracy for those things than any other simulation on the market. (…) rFactor 2’s physics engine is by far the most simulation based physics engine using real life aero and physical data that no other title has come close to.” The interaction and collaboration between Image Space Incorporated and professional racing teams and their engineers using the ISI developed rFactor Pro platform has benefited the new tire model used in rFactor 2. This has resulted in the “ISI TGM Tyre Tool”, a tool that is also available to third party modders. rFactor 2 is the first consumer simulation featuring a thermomechanical physically-based tire model, based on first principles, simulating the entire carcass, thread and contact patch, with proper heat transfer, accurate tire wear and flatspots, and also visual deformation. It’s also the first to feature truly dynamic track conditions. Most people new to rFactor 2 including experienced simracers aren’t used to having to manage their tires like in reality, therefore they tend to overdrive the car with too much steering input (something you can get away with in other driving simulations) resulting in overheating tires and excessive tire wear. rFactor 2 also includes a new constraint system that allows for advanced physics simulation such as chassis flex, which removes the typical infinite rigidity of a virtual vehicle and incorporates unique chassis characteristics into the handling and performance of the car, as well as highly accurate suspension geometry and wheel rates. On September 16, 2016, at Simracing Expo, ISI announced a deal with Luminis, a software company based in the Netherlands, that has already had experience with racing simulators having supported Reiza Studios in the development of Automobilista. This partnership brings the development of rFactor 2 in a new company called Studio 397. Studio 397 managing director Marcel Offermans stated that a lot of new features will be implemented in the game, including a more web-based UI, a DirectX 11 compatible graphics engine and the VR support for Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. Moreover, a new “paid-content system” would allow ISI to add more licensed content to the simulator. Βασικά το έχω πει πολλές φορές, ας το ξαναπώ. Δεν έχει νόημα να πας σε AMS όταν υπάρχει το rF2. mad_dog
This simulator has had its share of growing pains, which I am openly critical of, and I have had a love/hate relationship with it since getting onboard with it in 2012. As a pure simulator it is the best thing out there right now. It is THE ONLY simulator real teams can use, whereby, they can input Real World data and get accurate feedback for track use and development. None of your pCARS, AC, iracing or ANY Codies GAMES (these are NOT Simulators) can do that. ISI works (has worked) with Auto Industry and Racing developers so as a pure Simulator, it's more true than anything else right now.

andre
RFACTOR 2 > TECHNOLOGY BLOG introduction "The car is a temporary phenomenon, I believe in the horse." (Wilhelm II, German Emperor) That the story took a different course, is well known. The history of motorsport simulations is closely linked to the past and future of the automobile. With the invention of the personal computer, the starting signal was set for a hobby, which the reader of this article most likely runs himself. Over the last 44 years, black-and-white pixel aggregations have evolved into graphically impressive and highly detailed simulations. Racers around the world use these simulations to prepare for real races. We use you to live out our passion for the automobile and motorsport. In this blog we will look at one of these simulations - rFactor2 from ISI / Studio 397 - deeper. We will bring you closer to the technical basics and simulation approaches of this title and show you that in a "computer game" is significantly more than the user may expect. This blog will cover in regular sections individual topics of vehicle dynamics, driving physics and the simulation of routes and their events. With the help of theoretical basics we will introduce you to the simulation content and the depth of simulation of rFactor2. In the first part - to be released soon - we will take a closer look at the influence of the individual module focuses on the driving dynamics. mad_dog
Optimisation of the tyre model in rFactor2 environment for AVEHIL professional simulator Nowadays nothing is left to chance in Motorsport for what concerns both the mechanical and the human aspects: the development a good strategy, based on highly accurate forecast models, determines the success in a race. For a driver, as well as the athletes of every discipline, the training plays a crucial role in the approach to the race, but the track tests are limited for both economic reasons and regulation restrictions. Cristiano Giardina, thanks to his almost thirty-year experience in Motorsport as Team Manager, came to meet these two demands and founded Skydrive in 2015. Skydrive is an innovative start up that realizes professional simulators of the latest generation called AVEHIL (Advance Vehicle Engineering Human In the Loop) and the field office located in the Monza Eni Circuit has become a technological hub in Northern Italy for drivers and racing teams in few months. In particular, the Formula simulator uses the commercial videogame “rFactor2” as virtual platform. Being “rFactor2” developed for users with no experience with a racing car, the mathematical model of the tyre is simplified and several aspects are neglected. The aim of this master thesis is an in depth analysis of the physical model of the tyre and the algorithms of rFactor2 that affect the gameplay: the mechanical and thermal behaviour are deeply revised in such way that the force and temperature outputs generated by the virtual tyres are comparable with the ones obtained with the equivalent real tyres.
