  4. Update details: Download size = 7.6 GB Client version = 0.9.4.60 Client BuildID = 10144558 Dedi version = 88.0.1397 Dedi BuildID = 10144467 Sound improvements: Drivetrain oscillations: The new drivetrain oscillations system is now implemented on most cars (all except GT3 and TCR due to ongoing E-Sport competitions). As a reminder, the new drivetrain oscillations are generated by the physics which provides much more natural, dynamic and random oscillations when shifting and throttling. The track surface is also triggering oscillations (bumps, curbs, surface changes, etc.). In the old system, the oscillations were embedded in the engine sounds so they were not dynamic. Backfires and external gearshifts sounds: Added new short backfires samples to increase the randomization. Added new gearshift backfires samples, intended to play simultaneously with the normal gearshifts sounds and in combination with the new Fall Off Distances settings. It provides more organic, complex and random external gearshifts. Backfires sequences adjusted to increase the randomization of the new external backfire samples. The connection between engine revs and backfires amount/volume has been improved, which provides the player a more interactive experience. Sound volume based on distances: Doubled audible distance for external engine, backfires, gearshifts and antilag. Increased distant volume for external engine, backfires, gearshifts and antilag. Improved reverb on external gearshifts and backfires. The cars are now audible and slightly louder from a much longer distance. While this adjustment was kept conservative (due to some audio distortion issues with many cars on track), the improvement is clearly audible in the way the engine, backfires and gearshifts are triggering the reverb effects, making it more “enveloping”, spacious and natural. It’s also a delight to hear the cars volume decrease slowly in distance and being audible until 4 kms or more, compared to the previous quick volume drop. This is mostly intended for TV cams and freecam users. Improved chasecam balance (engine/backfires/gearshifts/antilag). Graphical improvements: Improved car body/paint shader to blur reflections based on roughness and fresnel highlights Improved cockpit shader, bringing more dynamism and deeper shadows Improved the car body shader to include some fresnel reflections Improved light reflections on tarmac / tyre marks Other changes: Autodrom Most - AI speed tweaks, improved AI start behaviour Brands Hatch GP - Fixed incorrect fuel use estimates Donington - Fixed misc art issues, AI speed tweaks on National layout German Nationals - Physics update Group 5 - Physics updated to improve the FFB and to the approach to differential settings so there’s now no preload. 15. RFactor And Goodyear Announce Partnership Press Release: The pursuit of realism is the holy grail in virtual racing. Thousands of calculations and permutations over the course of each lap help construct a world that mimics reality. Few simulations get close to the level of detail that rFactor 2 packs into its engine. Goodyear and Studio 397, the simulation developers, are involved in a collaboration that has led to a major step forward in replicating race tyre model behaviors in the virtual environment, allowing esports drivers to get closer than ever to the feeling their real-life counterparts experience as they battle for glory in the Le Mans Virtual Series. The collaboration between Goodyear and Studio 397 brings an authentic, immersive, and data-driven experience to esports drivers via the rFactor 2 physics model. Design engineers from Goodyear have had a key role in building the tyre model from the ground up. Bringing years of experience to new frontiers Goodyear’s endurance racing pedigree makes it the ideal partner for bringing the ups and downs of Le Mans to the virtual world. Goodyear has 14 overall wins in the 24 Hours of Le Mans and is currently the official tyre supplier to the LMP2 category in the FIA World Endurance Championship. In the European Le Mans Series, both the LMP2 and LMGTE categories are supplied exclusively by Goodyear. Significantly, these are the two categories that also compete in the virtual series, making the relationship between esports and track even stronger. The accumulation of having real FIA specification tyre options for Le Mans Virtual, and having tracks that replicate conditions experienced in real life, means esports drivers are faced with identical strategic dilemmas to their real-life counterparts racing in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The simulation is so true to the real world, its developers find that on-track driving skill translates into the virtual world, as Studio 397’s DMO, Dom Duhan, explains: “For drivers, we see in recent years that real-life experience helps negotiate in-game challenges like never before. For example, drivers can make much more of a difference in wet and changeable conditions, just like in the real world.” For Goodyear, being involved in virtual racing opens up new opportunities. “Tyres are complex by nature to simulate because of how many factors affect their performance,” explains Joao Coelho, Goodyear’s Manager Testing & Track Support Car Motorsport EMEA. “This is a win-win partnership that brings an added layer of authenticity to rFactor 2. Its tyre model is the most complete anywhere on the market, and Goodyear is at the center of the virtual racing experience. The potential is huge.” The competitive advantage Just as in the real world, tyre wear, temperature and pressure are crucial to getting a competitive edge in the Le Mans Virtual Series. As the simulation continues to enhance and develop the core tyre physics, teams are having to become more sophisticated to keep up with the levels of setup tuning required to be competitive. For example, tyre warmup is a critical component to gaining an edge on the competition after a pitstop. With Goodyear’s guidance, aspects such as track temperature and driver input all have a more realistic effect on the car. In the simulation, parameters for each of these are calculated to provide a dynamic virtual world. How drivers set up and extract performance from the tyres that feature in the simulation is the same as in real life. As well as enhanced tyre modeling, Studio 397 has integrated further core developments such as heat transfer through the brakes. Tyre behavior, feeling, and progression over a race distance are quickly becoming integral parts of the overall virtual racing experience; managing tyre temperatures just after a pitstop could be the difference between getting the better of rivals or losing valuable time. The pursuit of realism Studio 397 is able to achieve this level of realism by first taking laser scans of each track to ensure circuit proportions, elevation changes and imperfections are captured. Then, by working with Goodyear, they develop a tyre that feels, performs and wears like the real thing. This creates races that feel authentic both to those watching and competing. Duhan describes how collaborating with Goodyear works: “We start by asking ourselves ‘what happens if?’, and once we have answered that question several thousand times and we are happy that the simulator responds to our expectations, we have a realistic model. This is why the partnership with Goodyear has been so important. Access to those closest to the real tyres has informed our development and understanding in ways that otherwise would have been impossible. “Few people could tell you the impact that a one-degree track temperature increase has on a twenty-five-lap-old Goodyear tyre. It is these elements of the simulator that even to the drivers are imperceivable, but nonetheless add to the overall feeling of authenticity. The number of high-profile racing drivers that give us overwhelmingly positive feedback is a testament to that.” The result of this complete commitment to perfection is a virtual racing experience that carries the prestige and challenges of one of motorsport’s most famous – and difficult – races. “Le Mans Virtual is an excellent opportunity to be recognized in the esports space, an industry that has seen huge growth and popularity,” concludes Coelho. “We are proud to work alongside Studio 397’s dedicated development team to take Goodyear’s decades-long endurance racing pedigree into new frontiers.”
